“A resource unlike anything currently available in clinical or legal education.”

It is 8:30 in the morning and I opened the package to unveil a beautifully done book entitled The Science of Whiplash - a Clinical Legal Guide. I found myself captivated by the magnitude of the content, the complexity of the analysis, and the practicality of a subject often difficult to distill into concise and understandable terms.

It is now 12:30 and I realized that the entire morning has gone by without notice, due to being immersed in one of the most pragmatic summaries of a complex injury known as Whiplash. The book truly captured the essence of FLOW.

The book was incredibly comprehensive, and as a practitioner for more than 63 years I have never been convinced of the fact that Low-speed or No-vehicle damage meant no tissue trauma or non-existing disability - which may only manifest itself over time and the connection from injury to trauma lost. This all-inclusive compilation of clinical, legal and pragmatic understanding and science and the ability to translate that knowledge to the patient and a jury is an important step in advancing the benefit to patients who suffer Whiplash. This book is one of the most pragmatic summaries of a complex injury known as Whiplash. The AI component of this publication is truly unique to the publishing world and will ensure clear understanding of this complex issue.

Any doctor or attorney with a license to practice has the authority to have a personal practice. Unfortunately, for their patient/client that license does not carry with it expertise.

Dr. Kraus, in The Science of Whiplash, explains how the cervical spine can be injured, diagnosed, managed, and documented so that any attorney or jury would understand that process. He takes it a step further by providing the treating doctor with a library of citations and a better understanding of the legal side of the equation.

Beyond what is in the written text, the digital format with the AI search capacity makes this, THE volume that is a must for any doctor or attorney with a PI practice.

Bill Gallagher DC
President American Academy of Motor Vehicle Injuries

This textbook is a major scientific contribution written by an esteemed chiropractic neurologist who has provided all of us, perhaps the most comprehensive and authoritative work related to whiplash associated disorders that I have ever read. It is an evidence-based masterpiece and resource. Dr. Kraus deserves our collective thanks for this exhaustive work.

I strongly recommend that every chiropractor, orthopedist and physical therapist purchase a copy of this textbook for their library.

This book is just amazing. I cannot even fathom the amount of time Dr Kraus spent writing this book. It's got every single bit of information you would ever need about low-speed rear-impact collision, whiplash, guidelines, references, the AMA guides, how to do a peer review. I highly recommend you go get this book and put it in your library and read a little bit every day. You'll be glad you did.

The Science of Whiplash…it is truly a spectacular thing to behold… and I am absolutely blown away.

This is so much more than a book, it is a significant contribution to our profession and a resource that doctors will be able to learn from and rely upon for years to come.

I know the tremendous amount of work, research, and dedication that goes into a project of this magnitude, and it shows on every level…something truly special.

This book is extraordinary!

Whiplash injury remains one of the more complex and frequently debated subjects in clinical practice. Addressing its many dimensions requires considerable dedication, extensive research, and engagement with diverse clinical and scientific perspectives. This timely and comprehensive work represents a significant undertaking, inviting readers to explore this challenging subject in greater depth and to reflect on its clinical implications. Any clinician who works in evaluation and treatment of patients with whiplash would benefit from having this book in their reference library.

Dr. Michael Massey

Dr. Steven Kraus has produced an impressive and timely resource addressing one of the most complex and often misunderstood areas of spinal injury. The Science of Whiplash provides a thoughtful, scientifically grounded examination of injury biomechanics, ligamentous integrity, spinal instability, and the importance of objective clinical and radiographic assessment.

As a chiropractic radiologist, I particularly appreciate the emphasis on connecting scientific evidence with meaningful clinical findings. Dr. Kraus has brought together important concepts that deserve greater recognition in the evaluation of whiplash-associated injuries. This is an excellent resource for doctors, attorneys, students and other professionals seeking a deeper understanding in personal injury and the evaluation and management of whiplash-associated injuries.

‘The Science of Whiplash’ by Dr. Steven Kraus is an essential addition to every chiropractic physician's library. The depth of detail and logical structure of each learning section are intuitively designed and easy to understand. There is currently no other book like it on the market, and the medical-legal deposition and trial preparation insights instill complete confidence.

The Science of Whiplash is a groundbreaking book that every chiropractor and student should study, digest and use as a reference. While its focus is whiplash, the overall knowledge to be gained about the anatomy and function of the injured and healthy cervical spine is fantastic. It will make every DC more confident in the office as well as on the witness stand commanding higher fees as a go-to expert. I bought one for a personal injury attorney that we work with, and he was blown away and very grateful. I’m sure he will be referring us more people a result.

By blending foundational spinal-injury science with practical courtroom strategies and more than a thousand sample trial questions, Dr. Kraus offers a complete framework for clinicians who are asked to step into the medicolegal arena. What sets this book, The Science of Whiplash, apart is its clarity, depth, and unwavering commitment to objectivity.

Many clinicians lack formal training in medico-legal testimony, impairment rating methodology, and courtroom communication. Dr. Kraus addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive resource that equips clinicians with the necessary skills to explain, defend, and support their clinical conclusions in high-stakes legal environments including their reports and documentation using the scientific literature.

Eric Stulc, DC
Chiropractic Physician

Dr. Kraus has devoted decades to chiropractic practice, research, imaging, and the clinical and legal complexities of personal injury. His new book brings much of that experience together in a comprehensive reference on cervical spine injuries, biomechanics, instability, impairment, clinical documentation, and expert testimony.

One of the more interesting aspects of this publication is that the hardcover comes with an AI-powered research assistant. Readers can query the textbook and retrieve answers with supporting scientific references and page numbers.

To me, that combination is particularly compelling. We have access to an enormous amount of scientific literature, but finding the relevant information and applying it appropriately in clinical practice can be challenging. Making a resource of this depth searchable and accessible through AI adds a potentially significant layer of utility.

For chiropractors, other healthcare providers treating personal injury patients, and those involved in the medicolegal arena, this is a publication worth exploring.

Glenn Jaffe, DC

This book has already changed my documentation in PI cases to include critical elements that help patient outcomes and future healthcare. I’ve had the book for a month and am captivated by the science behind the details when we document mechanism of injury and prepare the final narrative report. Dr Croft laid the foundation in the 1990s. Dr Kraus has added the latest and greatest research over the past 25 years and now we have an arsenal of science to back up our findings. The book is so easy to navigate and the online Research Assistant makes it even faster to find what I need. Truly a masterpiece!

James Kickland, DC
30+ Year PI Chiropractic Physician

Whether you see hundreds of personal injuries a year or just 5-10 cases a year, The Science of Whiplash is a book every chiropractor should have.

Dr. Kraus does an excellent job of taking the science and research behind whiplash injuries and showing doctors how to put that information to practical use. He explains how to improve documentation, communicate findings in terms patients and attorneys can understand, and properly support those findings with scientific literature.

Good documentation doesn’t just help patients get the care they need. It also builds trust with attorneys, encourages referrals, and helps ensure patients receive fair consideration for the injuries they’ve suffered.

You owe it to those patients to handle their cases the right way. This book gives you the tools to do just that.

Dr. James Nieland, DC
Practice Owner & Clinical Mentor

For any practitioner involved in personal-injury cases chapters 12 & 13 alone are worth getting the book: The Science of Whiplash because it strengthens documentation, sharpens expert communication, and elevates the standard of care in one of the most litigated yet poorly understood injury mechanisms in modern practice. If only this book and information were available 35-40 years ago.

John D. Calisesi, DC FASA

Dr. Steven J. Kraus’s The Science of Whiplash brings together the science of cervical injury and the practicality of documenting and explaining its consequences. Its broad coverage includes injury biomechanics, ligament and disc injury, persistent symptoms, and impairment assessment, alongside guidance on clinical reporting and expert testimony. A particularly useful focus is the connection between clinical findings, published research, and clear communication in the medicolegal setting. For clinicians and attorneys working with whiplash cases, this book offers a substantial reference for understanding the issues involved and preparing more carefully supported reports and testimony.

Dr Mark Lopes, DC

I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with the book, “The Science of Whiplash”. The thing that separates it from all the others is the AI component. With a simple question and a couple of clicks, I was able to locate all the data needed how to document the patients level of injury and write a report to the attorney…such a great reference source.

Mickey Burt, DC

Wow! Dr. Steve Kraus' ‘The Science of Whiplash’ is a monumental contribution! The depth, breadth and scope of this textbook are incredible. Dr. Kraus has created a landmark masterpiece that will benefit patients suffering from whiplash injury by providing treating doctors and legal counsel with anatomy and physiology reviews, evidence-based information, guidelines for depositions and courtroom testimony, and so much more. I give this book my highest recommendation, five stars!

Dr. Phil Harrington

The whole presentation of The Science of Whiplash book of nearly a thousand pages… plus all of the graphs, charts, and illustrations at the end and again I was blown away at the level of detail put into this book. Thank you so much for providing a state-of-the-art, referenced, high-quality research and practical reference.

This was much needed for any chiropractic physician or any other practitioner providing high-level personal injury care. You have given us the tools we need to provide examinations and reporting that, quite honestly, make our profession look good, as it should, because this is clearly our expertise, and you have given us a living document we can use for years to come.

I feel completely overwhelmed by the prospect of using this document daily with my patients. Usually, ‘overwhelmed’ carries a negative connotation, but for me, this is a very specific, rare feeling. I've only felt it in a positive way once before.

Your book has brought back that exact same feeling. Your work sets a new benchmark for our clinical literature, raising the bar for our entire field and making me deeply proud of what we do. I recognize the immense labor and dedication required to produce something of this caliber, and I am profoundly grateful for the effort you have poured into this project.

Using your built-in AI to ask questions lets me copy and paste the answers into another document, as I would when developing my own reports on my own patients. I read from it every day!

Robert B. Sheely, DC, FICC, FIACA

The Science of Whiplash is evidence-based and comprehensive. It is an asset not only to our profession but also to the NMS healthcare industry. It is designed to provide evidence-based, useful information to help providers care for patients with whiplash injuries. Every aspect is addressed, including medical-legal preparation and preparing providers for how whiplash cases should be managed. Without doubt, your book is a standard in the management of acceleration-deceleration injuries. I would be honored to use your book as a primary reference for the Cervical Management and Technique class.

Shayan Sheybani, DC, MBA, FIANM, FICC, CHC

This is not merely a reference, it is a training system that teaches doctors how to think, document, and testify as expert witnesses whose conclusions are grounded in science, not just opinion.

Thomas Blankenbaker, DC
50+ years in PI practice

The Science of Whiplash is an incredibly comprehensive book that covers a tremendous amount of material, yet manages to present it in a clear, practical, and well-organized manner. Dr. Kraus has done an excellent job bringing together the research on whiplash biomechanics, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management, with extensive references supporting his recommendations. In addition to the countless clinical pearls, I particularly appreciated the attention to the medico-legal aspects of whiplash injuries, including documentation, expert testimony, and the clinical reasoning necessary to support your findings and recommendations. There is a lot here that will make you think differently about how you evaluate and manage these patients. This book is an impressive resource that deserves a place in every clinician's library.

Tim Bertelsman, DC
ChiroUp Co-founder

This impressive text is extremely thorough and I have no doubt that it will become an important part of both students and practitioners libraries broadening their knowledge and expertise. I recall well the work of Dr. Arthur Croft and his educational programs which many colleagues benefited from, and your work and exploration will be a great addition to the literature. I particularly like the format of the book as it is easy to navigate, an excellent reference tool and includes specific questions and answers frequently explored during the medicolegal process which many are unfamiliar with and further enhanced by the AI Research Assistant tool.

Wayne C. Wolfson, D.C.

The Science of Whiplash is an excellent resource that bridges the gap between clinical science and the legal complexities of whiplash injuries. As a chiropractic radiologist, I particularly appreciate the emphasis on understanding spinal injury mechanisms, recognizing structural abnormalities, and supporting clinical findings with evidence-based research. I found the explanations and practical application of Alteration of Motion Segment Integrity (AOMSI) particularly beneficial, especially as they relate to radiographic evaluation, accurate reporting, and effectively communicating the clinical significance of spinal instability.

This book offers tremendous value to practicing chiropractors by strengthening their understanding of injury assessment, documentation, and the medicolegal aspects of patient care. For chiropractic students, it provides an excellent foundation for understanding the complexities of spinal trauma beyond the classroom. Attorneys will also benefit from its ability to translate complex clinical and radiographic concepts into information that is understandable and relevant to personal injury cases.

This is a valuable reference that I believe would be an excellent addition to the libraries of both healthcare and legal professionals.
